Leadership Transformation Seminar

The Applied Leadership Seminar is based on over thirty years of executive leadership experience in the Oil & Gas Industry and C-level executive development programs with Fortune 100 companies. The primary focus is to enable management teams to produce the following results:

  • • Raise the leadership capabilities of the team as well as cooperation amongst the members
  • • Shape direction for an organization through rigorous understanding of internal and external realities

Seminar Overview
People who attend the Applied Leadership Seminar experience a leadership transformation for themselves and their organization. They gain a renewed confidence and a higher quality attention about leadership. The seminar begins from a position that leadership is not an affair of the head. It is also not about personality, or what leaders do, or how they do it. It is about behavior and the inner place from which people operate. The objective is to help each participant find that inner place and re-shape it for a future of possibilities — for them, their teams, and the organizations they manage.

The best context for the seminar is a new or existing team, especially one that is accountable for business results of a diverse organization. The seminar raises the leadership capabilities of the team as well as the cooperation amongst the members.

Seminar Phase 1

Phase 1: The seminar is a linear learning experience in that skills build from acquisition, to practice, to greater acquisition, etc.  It begins with shaping direction for an organization through rigorous understanding of internal and external realities. Participants walk away from this section with ideas that no single individual had coming into the room. The seminar then moves into team building and starts with each participant gaining a better understanding of their internal image as a vehicle to understanding others and what is needed within a team.

Thought-provoking work then follows about performance management, rewards, structure, and assurance. Anticipating and managing unintended consequences is a key skill acquired. This section ends with a profound learning about behavior – how it is observed and managed, its impact on integrity, and how it drives organization results.

Seminar Phase 2

With the foundation now set, the seminar transitions into “the juice” of leadership – creating support within an organization, establishing boundaries, providing context, and imbuing passion. New skills are acquired in this section that change lives and potentially reshape entire companies.

Structure

There is considerable flexibility in the structure of the seminar. It is designed to emulate a five-day management conference, including plenary and workshop sessions. Plenary sessions contain 25 hours of instruction. Workshop/feedback sessions total 15 hours and include 15 group exercises, 10 personal reflections, 8 individual exercises and 6 pairings. One of the group exercises covers a major business challenge confronting the seminar participants.  Approximately one month after the seminar each participant will have a follow-up one-on-one session with the instructor.

There is an option for four “fire-side chats” on the evenings of Days 2-5.  This is an opportunity for company executives to speak to the attendees in order to enhance connectivity and message continuity throughout the organization.  Typical topics include:  strategy, performance management, organization structure, and future possibilities.

Seminar Products

Participants will construct a Personal Leadership Development Program to enable their development as leaders of organizations and to embark on a path of personal development. They build the program during the seminar through written personal reflections and a one-on-one coaching session with the instructor. A work plan also will be prepared for a business challenge confronting the participant group.
